9 Students Represented at Invitational

The 2012 Jr. Heritage proved to be a test for the competitors, as Herron Point made it's debut as one of the new courses to play. On Saturday, players battled the new links and it showed to be a tough course with the scores.

Hank Haney IJGA student, Matt Cheng, showed he was ready for the competition coming out firing an opening round 73.

With that score, Cheng found his way into the top 5 going into the final round played at the famous Harbour Town Golf Links. Cheng used his course knowledge he gained at that IJGT 4th Annual Hank Haney Invitational in the second round to his advantage. With winds picking up towards the end of the round, Cheng carded a final round 75, placing tied for 4th in the tournament and gaining an exception back into next years field.

Cheng was not the only one that shined over the weekened. Hank Haney IJGA student, Aaron Terrazas battled at Herron Point with an opening round of 78, and on Sunday fired a final round 71 at Harbour Town to move up the leaderboard. Terrazas secured himself a spot for next years field as well finishing in the top 10.

The spotlight in the Girls division belonged to Junior Heritage Qualifier winner and Hank Haney IJGA Student Clementina Rodriguez. Clementina qualified for the tournament the Saturday before the prestigious invitational and took that confidence into the event. With an opening round 75, Rodriguez found herself in the top 10 heading into the final round.318940_10150796455780026_228964885025_20

Having played Harbour Town Golf Links less then 2 months ago at the IJGT 4th Annual Hank Haney Invitational, Rodriguez proved to have local knowledge of the course. With an eagle on the par-5 5th hole, she controlled her round with confidence. With a final round 73, Clementina coasted into a tie for 2nd place. With that finish, she will be an exemption next year!
